PURPOSE:To prevent damage of optical components and the structure by reducing the power density of axis off-set laser beams by a method wherein the region in the end surface of an active medium which generates laser beams which are prevented from emtting again in parallel with the axial line after passing through the active medium is formed into a diffusion surface. CONSTITUTION:In the conventional surface pumping laser, of laser beams incident from the end surface 5 of the laser active medium, a beam lower than H in length from an optical smoothed surface 4 does not emit from other end surface in parallel with the axial line 2 after passing through the laser active medium 1. The region D on the end surface 5 which causes such a beam is kept in a diffusion surface. A laser beam 10 incident to this regiond D is diffused in every direction into axis-off beams, and the damage of optical components or the structure can be prevented because of the decrease in power density of the laser beam. It is the same with laser beams incident from the other side surface 6, and the region E on the end surface 6 corresponding to the height H from an optical smoothed surface 3 is formed into a diffusion surface. |
