PURPOSE:To obtain the titled modified polymer free from any discoloration development even in the presence of air, with increased weight-average molecular weight to effect broader molecular weight distribution, having moderate branched structure, by heating poly-p-vinyl phenol at specific temperatures in the presence of amine. CONSTITUTION:Poly-p-vinylphenol is treated on heating at 150-350 (pref. 200- 300) deg.C for 30min-5hr. in the presence of pref. 0.05-5wt% of an amine (pref. aliphatic amine, alkanolamine, imidazole to accomplish the objective modification).
