PURPOSE:To easily grasp a layout and balance by switching display to a reduction display mode in case the entirety of a document is larger than a display screen in normal display mode. CONSTITUTION:Keys on a keyboard 1 are operated after initial mode setting to create and edit a document. At this time, when the number of characters on one line is larger than the width of the display screen of a display part 3, a display mode switching means performs display mode switching and display characters displayed in normal display mode by using reduced character size. Consequently, the whole of the input document is displayed on the display screen, so the creation of the document is carried on in this state and the display is returned to the normal display mode or switched to the reduction display mode again when necessary to complete the document.
