PURPOSE:To provide a molding material having excellent moldability and giving a molded article having excellent impact strength, by compounding a phenolic resin having a specific solubility parameter with a polyvinyl alcohol fiber having specific tensile strength and a lubricating filler. CONSTITUTION:The objective material can be produced by compounding (A) 100pts.(wt.) of a phenolic resin having a solubility parameter of 9-11, preferably a benzylic ether-type, ammonia resol-type, bisphenol A-modified, aniline-modified, or amine-modified phenolic resin with (B) a Vinylon fiber having a tensile strength of >=6g/denier, preferably >=7.5g/denier, (C) 2-50pts., preferably 10- 30pts. of a lubricating filler, preferably tungsten disulfide, especially graphite or molybdenum disulfide, and if necessary, (D) an organic or inorganic filler such as cellulose. The amount of the component B is 5-100pts., preferably 30-70pts. for injection molding material, and 5-150pts., preferably 30-110pts. for transfer molding or compression molding material.
