PURPOSE:To improve the yield of a steel ingot in continuous pouring in a casting mold from an immersion nozzle by decreasing the ingot drawing speed while some molten metal remains in a tundish in the end period of said pouring to provide a riser effect thereby preventing the generation of a pipe in the ingot. CONSTITUTION:The drawing speed for the ingot 1 is decreased in the period when some molten metal 2a remains still in the tundish in the end period of continuous pouring from the immersion nozzle into the casting mold 5. The substantial riser effect is obtd. in the unsolidified parts 6a, 6b in the mold 5, by which the generation of the pipe is prevented. The nozzle 4 is cut away in the top surface part of the mold 5 when the molten metal solidifies to the molten metal surface in the casting mold. The remaining nozzle part of the ingot may be cut away in the subsequent stage. The yield of the ingot is improved. The cost of the ingot 1 is further reduced if an inexpensive throw-away nozzle is used for nozzle 4. |
