The briquetting device includes a conveying and compacting screw (5) which is mounted on an axle (6), runs in cantilevered fashion into a truncated-cone-shaped shell (12) and is arranged beneath a filling hopper (10). The straw which is fed in is precompacted in the cone-shaped shell (12) and is rammed into a compacting channel (15) by at least one pressure ram (19). <IMAGE>
