For satisfactory printing on recording media of different sizes, a paper support is required even for inexpensive typewriters. The invention is based on the object of providing a secure and inexpensive paper support along the entire delivery region for the recording media. This is achieved in that the paper support consists of a protective covering (6) which covers the feed and delivery region, for example for transportation. By means of the protective covering (6) according to the invention, both the case hood of known small typewriters and a separate paper support can be dispensed with. Furthermore, manufacture is made less expensive and assembly is simplified. <IMAGE>
