A cephem compound of the formula:

wherein
R<1> is amino or a protected amino group;
R<2> is lower alkenyl which may have a carboxy or a protected carboxy group, lower alkynyl, cycloalkyl, ar(lower)alkyl which may have suitable substituent(s) or lower alkythio(lower)alkyl; and
R<3> is hydrogen, carbamoyl or hydroxy(lower)alkyl and pharmaceutically acceptable salts thereof, and processes for their preparation and also a pharmaceutically composition comprising, as an effective ingredient, the above compound in association with pharmaceutically acceptable carriers.
