PURPOSE:To reduce the transmission time and to save recording paper by stopping the transmission of a white line when the white line is consecutive for a prescribed number or over. CONSTITUTION:The line information read by an image sensor 2 is amplified by a video amplifier 3 and then binary-coded by a binary coding circuit 4. Then the result is given to a line buffer memory 9 and to a white line detecting circuit 5. The presence of the white line is detected by the white line detecting circuit 5 and a white line number discriminating circuit 6 discriminates whether the consecutive white line numbers exceed the prescribed value. When the number is less than the prescribed number, the white line is transmitted to a reception side in the form of an abbreviated code and when it is over a prescribed number, the transmission of the succeeding white line is stopped. Thus, the transmission time is reduced and the recording paper is saved.
