PURPOSE:To obtain a photographic element having a temporary barrier layer superior in temp. compensation function and adhesion to an adjacent layer by forming a layer contg. a specified polymer having repeating units on a support. CONSTITUTION:The timing layer for forming a temporary barrier layer blocking diffusion of an alkaline processing solution contains in a photographic layer a useful polymer represented by formula I in which R<1> is alkyl or aralkyl; R<2> is alkyl, aralkyl, or the like substd. by COOH, SO3H, SO2NH2, or their salts, R<3> is aryl; R<4>, R<5>, R<6> are each same or different, and each is H or alkyl; l, m, n are each an integer of >=2; x, y, z are 1-90wt%, 1-50wt%, and 1-90wt%, respectively. This polymer having a mol.wt. of 5,000-1,000,000 is used, and it is prepared by the emulsion polymn. in the soln. of an org. solvent or the like. The polymer is dissolved in an org. solvent, such as acetone, and applied to the support to incorporate the temporary barrier layer in the photographic element. |
