When grilling on a charcoal grill or over an open fire, liquid fat drips into the embers and burns. In order to avoid this, a fat separator was developed which consists of Z-shaped slats inclined at 45 DEG . As illustrated by arrows in Figure 1, the fat collects in the lower limbs of the slats. The heated air can pass between the slats to the product to be grilled. The deflection of the heat radiation due to the 45 DEG -position of the slats is shown in Figure 2. Figure 3 shows a possible arrangement of the slats. By a slight inclination of the fat separator, the fat can be caused to flow away.
