An ornament or display device has a movable body 4 provided with a permanent magnet 5, magnetically suspended below an electromagnet 3 the current in which is controlled, for example, by an infrared sensor 10 responsive to radiation from emitters 8 reflected from the body. The body has an equilibrium position but can spin or oscillate with a substantial gap between it and the suspending electromagnet. Alternatively one or more spheres or other objects can be suspended between a pair of horizontally opposed electromagnets.
