The internal combustion engine (1) has an induction line with an input-side induction compressor (11) and an exhaust line belonging to the exhaust feedback (3) connected to the induction line with an opening (25). The engine has an additional compressor (49) in series with the induction compressor and upstream of the opening whose function can be reversed for operation as an expander. An independent claim is also included for a method of generating and/or regulating a pressure difference.
