PURPOSE:To stabilize the particle of ink and printing quality, by detecting the flight speed of an ink particle and supplying a diluent to used ink when the detection speed is smaller than a set value to regulate the viscosity of the ink. CONSTITUTION:To an ink jet recording apparatus wherein ink particles are injected from a nozzle 5 and charged by a charge electrode 6 while the charged particles are deflected corresponding to an image signal by a deflection electrode 7 and the non-deflected ink particles are recovered by a gutter 9, an ink diluent receiving container 15 and a supply control system 14 are provided and an ink particle flight speed detection means (for example, a means for measuring a time before the ink particles injected from the nozzle 5 reach the gutter 9) is provided and, when the flight speed of ink particles is smaller than a predetermined value, an ink diluent is supplied to an ink recirculation supply means from the container 15. |
