PURPOSE:To track a subject which moves fast by dividing a tracking visual field into three areas and fixing the signal from the center area, and calculating the difference between signals from adjacent areas including the center area and detecting the relative movement of the subject. CONSTITUTION:Signals from the center picture element B among picture elements A-C corresponding to three divided subject visual field areas and the left picture element A are processed by a comparing device 50 equipped with a memory 53, distance arithmetic circuit 54, dividing circuit 55, etc., to calculate the subject relative distance as the ratio of distance based upon a signal from the left area including the picture element B to distance when the signal of the picture element B is fixed in an initial state. Similarly, a comparing device 51 calculates the subject relative distance of the right area including the picture element B and a decision circuit 58 detects the relative movement of the subject from the difference between both relative distances. In this initial state, the relative movement based upon the fixed distance is detected to detect the relative movement securely even if the subject moves fast, thereby tracking the fast moving subject. |
