PURPOSE:To improve the heat resistance of an ethylene/propylene rubber composition, by adding thereto a specified phenol derivative. CONSTITUTION:A phenol derivative is added to an ethylene/propylene rubber composition. The amount of the phenol derivative added is in the range of 0.05- 5pts.wt. per 100pts.wt. ethylene/propylene rubber. When this amount is below 0.05pts.wt. the effect of improving heat resistance is not sufficient, undesirably. When this amount is above 5pts.wt., the effect of improving heat resistance does not correspond to that amount, which is economically undesirable. Said phenol derivative may be used in combination with, if necessary, other additives, such as an antioxidant, reinforcing agent, filler, softener, plasticizer, vulcanization accelerator, and vulcanizing agent. Examples of the ethylene/propylenes used include ethylene/propylene rubber and ethylene/propylene/nonconjugated diene copolymer rubbers containing a nonconjugated diene such as ethylidenenorbornene or dicyclopentadiene as a third component.
