Antistatic and fabric softener compositions for application to textile fabrics comprises a combination of an N,N-dialkyl-N,N-di-lower-alkyl quaternary ammonium salt either alone or in combination with an N-long-chain alkylamido-lower-alkyl-N,N-di-lower-alkyl-N-R4'-quaternary ammonium salt and critical amounts of a lactic acid salt and the method of use of such compositions for treating textile fabrics.
