PURPOSE:To obtain a precise and accurate control system of a sewing machine by varying the pulse width of an exciting pulse of clutch and brake coils according to the difference between the rotating speed and the set speed of the machine. CONSTITUTION:When set speed is instructed to speed setting means 15, a CPU2 inputs the number of pulses from a speed detector 13 counted by a counter 4 through an I/O port 3. The frequency of the input is performed by an oscillator 6 at the prescribed time interval. The content CT of the input counter 14 is compared with numeric value N corresponding to the set speed, and in case of N>CT, a clutch coil CL is excited, and in case of N<CT, a brake coil BK is excited. The width of an exciting pulse at that time is varied in response to the difference between N and CT. Thus, accurate control can be performed.
