PURPOSE:To eliminate the necessity of the capstan and pinch roller from a rotary head type tape recorder device so as to simplify the constitution of the device, by controlling the rotating speed of a motor in accordance with the rotation of a detecting member which is contacted with and rotated by a tape so that the running speed of the tape can be fixed constantly. CONSTITUTION:A speed detecting ring 25 is provided along the peripheral surface of an upper clyinder 13a. The speed detecting cylinder 15 is contacted with a tape 11a wound around a cylinder 13 and rotated along the pheripheral surface of the cylinder 13 as the tape 11c is run. The rotational force of the speed detecting ring 15 is transmitted to a speed detector 16 through a rotary shaft 16a. A reference voltae is previously set to a level corresponding to the voltage which rotationally drives a reel motor 17 so that the tape 11c can be run constantly at a reference speed and the rotating speed of the reel motor 17 is controlled so that the tape 11c can be run constantly at a reference speed in the positive direction.
