PURPOSE:To increase reliability of insulation and clamping by covering insulating plates, which are placed on the upper and lower ends of a cell stack of unit cells using phosphoric acid as electrolyte, with a phosphoric acid resistant insulating layer. CONSTITUTION:A plurality of unit cells 1 each of which consists of a fuel electrode 2, a matrix 3 which holds electrolyte, an air electrode 4, and a separating plate 5 with grooves are stacked to form a cell stack 6. Current collectors 7, and insulating plates 8 each which is formed by covering the surface of an insulating base plate 81 such as asbestos with a layer 82 of fluorine resin such as PTFE or PFA are placed at the upper and lower ends of the cell stack 6, then they are clamped with a fastnening 12 to form a phosphric acid type fuel cell. Decrease in insulation caused by penetration of phosphoric acid to the insulating plate 8 is prevented and decrease in clamping area thickness caused by a creep phenomenon is suppressed. |
