PURPOSE:To make continuous program searching of numerous programs, by repeatedly recording positional information regarding the present program and positional information regarding previous programs by utilizing the vertical blanking section of a video track recording the programs. CONSTITUTION:Nothing is usually recorded as information in a blank section Z of, for example, about three seconds formed between a program m-1 and another program (m). In video tracks VT2, VT3, VT4, VT6, etc., in which the program No. m is not recorded, each of numbers from No.1 to No. m-1 and the hour, minute, and second from the leading end to the first track of each program are successively recorded repeatedly one by one. That is to say, the hour, minute, and second recorded in the first track of each program until the No. m-1 are repeatedly recorded. The tape position information thus recorded on a tape can be read out when the tape is slightly moved after setting a VTR to the reproducing mode.
