PURPOSE:To realize various advantages such as reduction in the size of the titled device, prevention against an increase in manufacture cost, and elimination of the need to synchronize signals between tapes by recording and reproducing plural tapes through one cylinder drum simultaneously. CONSTITUTION:The diameter of the cylinder drum 6 is twice as large as the diameter of the cylinder drum of the conventional VTR which handles one tape. Two tape loading units are provided and two video cassettes 7 and 8 are loaded on VTR. Tapes 13 and 14 led out of the cassettes 7 and 8 are wound around the peripheral surface of the cylinder drum 6 by 90 deg.+alpha. The cylinder drum 6 has four video heads 9, 10, 11, and 12 which rotate at a rotational frequency a half as high as that of the conventional heads at positions of accurate 90 deg. indexing. Those four video heads are different in azimuth angle in the order of A, B, A', and B' and switched at every quarter turn, namely, every time each video head comes to one of positions P1-P4 corresponding to the tapes 13 and 14 that the video heads face.
