PURPOSE:To sharply improve the overwrite characteristic of a magnetic recording body without spoiling the high-density characteristic extensively, by setting the value of the magnetic anisotropic energy of the storage medium of the magnetic recording body to a specific range. CONSTITUTION:In order to make high-density recording by using a ring head, the magnetic anisotropic energy of the storage medium of a magnatic recording body is set to values within a range of -10X10<5>erg/cc<=Ku<=0. The recording density characteristic is increased as the Ku of the storage medium is increased, but the increasing degree becomes less when the Ku is -10X10<5>erg/cc or more. On the other hand, the overwrite characteristic of the recording medium deteriorates as the Ku positively increases. In case of mixed mode in which perfect vertical recording is not performed, an excellent overwrite characteristic is obtained without lowering the recording density extensively when the recording is performed on the magnetic recording body with a medium, whose Ku value is set in the range of -10X10<5>erg/cc<=Ku<=0, by using a ring head.
