PURPOSE:To shorten a readout time by turning on intermittently light sources which have different light emission wavelength at individual frequencies and discriminating the output of a photodetector by band-pass filters corresponding to the on-off frequencies. CONSTITUTION:Light emitting diodes Lr, Lg, and Lb having light emission wavelength corresponding to the three primary colors are turned on intermittently by power sources 3r, 3g, and 3b with mutually different oscillation frequencies Fr, Fg, and Fb. The signal at the output terminal of the light emitting photodiode has its DC component removed and only the AC component is applied to an operational amplifier OP, whose output signal is applied to band-pass filters FLr, FLg, and FLb which discriminate components of frequencies Fr, Fg, and Fb, thereby obtaining image signals Sr, Sg, and Sb corresponding to red, green, and blue.
