TREATMENT OF CONTINUOUS CASTING SLAB

PURPOSE:To eliminate the need for a heating or holding cover for the purpose of sizing in the stage of sizing slabs to be sized such as taper-width slabs such are continuous casting slabs by a blooming mill by stacking the slabs to be sized on the inside of the non-sizing slabs feeding the slabs to the blooming mill. CONSTITUTION:Overwidth slabs such as taper-width slabs generated in the stage of an operation for changing the width of continuous casting slabs during continuous casting are sized by the blooming mill in order to be made coincident with the final product width. The slabs cut to a specified length right after continuous casting in this case are at a high temp. and therefore n-sheets of the slabs are stacked on a carriage (a) and 1 and (n) among these slabs are made non-sizing slabs and the slabs up to 2-(n-1) are made the slabs to be sized. The slabs 2-(n-1) maintain the high temp. as the heat thereof is held by the own heat and the heat retained in the upper and lower non-sizing slabs 1, (n). The sizing treatment is thus executed without the need for fresh heating of the slabs or the need for the holding cover.
