The shoe incorporates a rigid insole, while the upper (1) is fixed to the side of the insole (2) towards the outer sole (3). The insole can be in two sections joined together by a flexible portion, these sections typically being of wood or similar material. The upper can be secured to the sides of the insole and enclosed by the covering edges of the sole, the latter being typically of plastics with the necessary recesses. The sole can be of plastics injection-moulded onto the assembled upper and insole.
