The wick retainer for cooperating with a candle (20) exhibiting a wick (24) and exterior surfaces, comprises a wall element (12), a connected ground element (14), an exterior support plate element (28) for carrying the candle, and a fastening element or a stand component. The exterior surfaces are designed as a contact area (22). After joining the wick retainer and the candle, an end of the wick turned to the contact area is surrounded by the wall element and topside of the wall element is completely arranged within the interior volume defined by the exterior surfaces of the candle. The wick retainer for cooperating with a candle (20) exhibiting a wick (24) and exterior surfaces, comprises a wall element (12), a connected ground element (14), an exterior support plate element (28) for carrying the candle, and a fastening element or a stand component. The exterior surfaces are designed as a contact area (22). After joining the wick retainer and the candle, an end of the wick turned to the contact area is surrounded by the wall element in each direction parallel to the contact area and top side of the wall element opposite to the ground element is completely arranged within the interior volume defined by the exterior surfaces of the candle. The wall element and/or the ground element exhibit an air passage opening that exhibits an air-permeable and fireproof cover element. The cover element is transferable through the contact of the contact area of the candle from a first position into a second position. The cover element in the second position covers the air passage opening in airtight manner. The ground element is ambiguously implemented in the air passage opening area. The size of the opening is changeable and/or the opening is lockable over a rotation of first partial floor space opposite to a second partial floor space. The top side of the wall element exhibits an edge, saw teeth and/or a screw thread.
