PURPOSE:To detect the position of a columnar body by extracting points where a color change is made from white to black or vice versa in an image in a binary pattern of 0 (black) and 1 (white) obtained by quantizing a signal inputted from an image pickup device. CONSTITUTION:Image input signals obtained by converting the 1st and the 2nd projection image photoelectrically are quantized by a quantizing device 4, and a feature extracting circuit 5 extracts image areas constituting straight lines of the 1st and the 2nd projection images from the output signal of the device 4; and a frequency distribution arithmetic part 6 calculates a frequency distribution of distances of perpendiculars from the extracted image areas to the origins of the projection images and then calculates the maximum point in the distribution, and a center line arithmetic circuit 8 calculates image areas constituting the center lines of the 1st and the 2nd projection image on the basis of the maximal values. An intersection arithmetic circuit 8 calculates the intersection of the center line of the 1st projection image and the center line of the 2nd projection image on the basis of said arithmetic results to detect the center position of the object. |
