PURPOSE:To obtain a color display having a high contrast ratio by constituting the hues of a color filter and color polarizing plate into a complementary color relation with each other. CONSTITUTION:A liquid crystal display device is constituted with a neutral polarizing plate 1, the color filter 2, a liquid crystal display element 3 and the color polarizing plate 4. The filte 2 is colored with a green and the plate 4 is colored with a red which is in the complementary color relation with the filter 2 in the case of making a black-green contrast ratio display. The green is thus displayed on the black background in a negative display and the black is displayed on the green background in a positive display, respectively at a good contrast ratio. The hues of the filter 2 and the plate 4 may be made into the complementary color relation of the a blue and reddish green. |
