PURPOSE:To make it possible to perform the printing of a well-balanced small character without using an exclusive character generator or changing a printing pitch, by printing the small character by using the dot pattern in a low resolution character generator as it is. CONSTITUTION:A character generator is equipped with two kinds of a high resolution one and a low resolution one and, by the command from a host or the mode setting of a high resolution selection key, high resolution printing or low resolution printing can be performed. However, when the printing of a small character is required in a high resolution printing mode, the dot pattern set to the low resolution character generator is utilized as it is to print the small character. As a result, the small character is well balanced to a high resolution character. Because the low resolution character generator is determined in the correspondence to a thermal head 10, the correspondence to each dot is set in printing the small character by edition processing. Therefore, it is unnecessary to use an exclusive character generator and printing can be performed without changing the printing pitch at the time of the printing of the high resolution character and, therefore, printing is enabled by the one line-one operation of a carrier. |
