PURPOSE:To obtain a cell construction which is easily made large, simple in structure, and attainable to relatively high efficiency by utilizing ultraviolet rays produced from negative glow having high luminous efficiency in the domain of small discharge current. CONSTITUTION:On a front substrate (glass) FG side, cathode buses DCB and cathodes DC are arranged, and on a rear substrate RG, with a cell sheets CS put between it and the FG, display anode buses DAB, display anodes DA, and auxiliary (scanning) anodes SA are arranged, and on the rear substrate side of display cells constituted of the DA and DC, phosphor Ph is adhered. Starting discharge occurred between the auxiliary anodes SA and the cathodes DA is led to the display cells through slits SL made between the cell sheet CS and the rear substrate RG. The display cathodes DA and the cathodes DC are offset to increase luminous efficiency. The product pd of the display panel tube pressure p and the distance d between the cathode and the display anode is set to be 8Torr.cm or less to form the negative glow which is positively utilized. |
