The unit is for operating the doors in enlarged access openings on railway wagons. The opening is extended upwards beyond the level of the top guiding rail, which is interrupted. At the door edge, the upper lever arms are arranged so as to engage both adjoining sections of this rail when the door is closed. When open, the door remains held and guided at two points on the bottom rail via the lower lever arms and at a side point, with an upper lever arm, on the top rail section on the side to which the door is pushed.
