A process for the thermal treatment of a material phase with heating or cooling elements is proposed, in which a heat absorption or heat release capacity of the material phase is taken into account. This is accomplished by determining, at the start of the treatment under known temperature conditions (T(o)), a specific heat absorption or heat release capacity of the material phase (v(o)). Without further measurements or determinations of material phase characteristics, the said elements are adjusted by means of the determined heat absorption or heat release capacity (v(o)), in accordance with a time adjustment function, determined with allowance for thermodynamic laws, for a prescribed material phase end temperature (TH(n)) to be reached. <IMAGE>
