PURPOSE:Expandable microscopic resin particles useful as a light-weight filler for light-weight concrete, etc., providing particles having uniform and multi- cellular structure, having crosslinked bonds, a solvent-insoluble content and particle diameters in specific ranges, comprising a volatile organic compound. CONSTITUTION:A synthetic resin (synthetic resin comprising especially styrene, methyl methacrylate, vinyl chloride, or vinylidene chloride as main component) obtained by preferably latex polymerization method, suspension polymerization method, etc. is provided with crosslinking bonds by adding an organic peroxide. A volatile organic compound is added to an aqueous dispersion of the synthetic resin, and stirred at >= the vapor pressure of the compound at a heating temperature, to give the aimed expandable particles having crosslinked bonds, 30- 80wt%, preferably 40-70wt% solvent-insoluble content, 0.05-10mum, preferably 0.1-1mum particle diameter, containing the volatile organic compound.
