PURPOSE:To obtain the titled resin particle resistant to the agglomeration during the prefoaming process and having improved fusion characteristics in molding, by coating the surface of a resin particle containing a specific hydrocarbon as a foaming agent with a coating agent containing a specific polyol monoester as an essential component. CONSTITUTION:A thermoplastic resin particle (e.g. polystyrene, polymethylstyrene, etc.) is impregnated with a foaming agent comprising a hydrocarbon (e.g. propane, butane, etc.) having a boiling point lower than the softening point of said resin, and the surface of the impregnated resin particle is coated with a coating agent containing a polyethylene glycol of formula (R is 12-22C alkyl or hydroxyalkyl; n is 10-300) as essential component.
