PURPOSE:The titled resin that is obtained by reducing the volatile components to smaller than a specific amount at a specific temperature from a methyl methacrylate polymer containing a specific amount of fluoroalkyl alpha-fluoroacrylate, thus showing very low moisture absorbance. CONSTITUTION:A monomer mixture containing, as a major component, methyl methacrylate containing 3-40wt% of a fluoroalkyl alpha-fluoroacrylate (e.g., 1,1,1,3, 3,3-hexafluoro-2-propyl alpha-fluoroacrylate, when needed, a compound bearing polymerizable unsaturated group such as acrylic acid is polymerized by adding a polymerization initiator such as lauroyl peroxide to give a polymer. The polymer is treated with heat at 70-350 deg.C in the absence of oxygen to reduce the volatile components lower than 1.2wt% to give the objective methacrylic resin. |
