The invention relates to an airbag and method for production of an airbag, comprising a distributor element (2), for gas from a gas generator, to which at least one multi-layered chamber (3, 4), which may be filled with gas from the gas generator, is stitched and which has a flow connection to outlet openings (22) of the distributor element (2). The distributor element (2) comprises a housing device (5) for the gas generator. According to the invention, the distributor element (2; 2', 2", 2") is cut out of a base material, stitched to give a hollow body and comprises at least two connector seams (31, 32), which separately join the layers of the chambers (3, 4) to a layer of the distributor element (2; 2', 2", 2").
