PURPOSE:To enable the control of the torque of an input shaft, through a simple construction, by using an electric motor to apply a steering resistance or a rotation assisting force as to the rotation of the input shaft of a power steering gear, depending on the speed of a vehicle, the angle of steering or the like, to regulate the torque of the input shaft to a proper level. CONSTITUTION:In a power steering gear, an input shaft 2 is rotated by the rotation of a steering wheel through a steering shaft 3. A changeover valve 101 is controlled by the rotation of the input shaft 2 to regulate the flow of a pressure fluid supplied from a pump 4 to a power cylinder 1. A transmission gear 8 is secured on the input shaft 2 and engaged with a gear 7 on the rotary shaft of an electric motor 6. When the torque of the input shaft 2 detected by a torque sensor 9 is lower than an optimal level calculated by a control unit 12 on the basis of the outputs of a vehicle speed sensor 10 and a steering angle sensor 11, the electric motor 6 is controlled to apply a turning force in such a direction as to increase the torque of the input shaft. |
