摘要 PURPOSE:To identify the direction of a high speed moving body or a body having slight vibration by comparing feature data previously stored in plural storage means with respective feature data extracted on the basis of the outputs of respective image pickup means in parallel. CONSTITUTION:Four parts P1-P4 out of side images of a parts 1 are teached. At first, partial images P1, P2 are simultaneously image-picked up by image pickup devices 3a, 3b and picture signals outputted from the devices 3a, 3b respectively are binary-coded by preprocessing circuits 4a, 4b respectively and temporally stored as feature data in respective memories of feature extracting circuits 5a, 5b. Then, the parts 1 is rearranged, the partial images P2, P1 are simultaneously image-picked up by the devices 3a, 3b similarly and the reference data are extracted and stored in the circuits 5a, 5b respectively. The same processing is applied also to the partial images P3, P4. In the direction identifying processing, the reference data for the partial images P1-P4 in the circuits 5a, 5b and the X and Y direction components extracted by the outputs of the devices 3a, 3b are compared in parallel by an arithmetic processor 6 to identify the direction of the parts 1.
