The action is improved of the known pulping and sorting apparatus, essentially designed with a circular cylindrical housing, in which apparatus a rotor rotating in front of a generally flat screen produces a turbulent flow, the axis of which coincides with the cylindrical axis of the housing, by carrying out the feed of the fibre suspension into the apparatus at the end centrally in an annular channel, which is arranged around the light dirt discharge nozzle. In addition, a funnel-shaped guide wall is provided which starts from the discharge nozzle for the light dirt and deflects the pulp stream entering the housing radially outwards so that the discharge flow of the light dirt and also fundamentally the flow into the housing are not hindered. As a result, a low inlet pressure of the fibre suspension into the housing is possible so that the apparatus can be operated with less energy. In addition, it is also possible to achieve an expedient discharge method for the heavy dirt. For this purpose, a further channel is provided which is partitioned off in the annular feed channel of the fibre suspension and which conducts the heavy dirt to the region of the inlet opening of the light dirt discharge nozzle.
