PURPOSE:To display a still picture by utilizing a required display memory in a matrix type liquid crystal display element of group split type. CONSTITUTION:The group split type and X-Y matrix type liquid crystal display element 19 has upper/lower signal drive blocks 16, 17, which constitute a display drive block 15. A video signal Va from a television signal reception section 30 and an image pickup signal Vp from an image pickup block 40 are fed to a video signal processing circuit 34 via a video signal switching circuit 29. The image pickup signal Vp is inputted to a still picture signal froming block 37. A picture recording block 50 records a still picture signal. A display switching control circuit 65 supplies a signal from the video signal processing circuit 34 and a signal from an image pickup picture signal processing circuit 60 to a display state control block 70 selectively. Display memories 76, 77 of the block 70 have MXN addresses, store the most new still picture signal recorded on the picture recording block 50 and supply the signal to upper/lower signal drive blocks 16, 17.
