The invention is used in the preparation of polyurethane systems. The object is to prepare, by a suitable process, polyols of reducible quality, low viscosity and acidity and adequate functionality. The object is achieved according to the invention by reacting, without chemical pretreatment, liquid or solid isocyanate-containing distillation residues with a stoichiometric excess of alcohol components and optionally additives, continuously or batchwise, at temperatures of 250 DEG C.
