PURPOSE:To decrease the resistance of water to the hull of a ship, by protruding a flat rectifier forward from the bow of the ship slightly over its designed load line to restrict the upward flow of water on the outside surface of the bow to reduce the wave breaking phenomenon thereon. CONSTITUTION:A rectifier 2 is protruded forward from the bow of a ship. The rectifier 2 has a flat form and is so attached to the ship that the top of the rectifier is located slightly over the designed load line 3a of the ship. Since the rectifier 2 covers a water region wherein vortexes are caused as a result of break of waves, the rotation of the vortexes is restrained. Since the flow of water around the rectifier 2 is accelerated, the rise of the water surface on the bow of the ship is diminished to suppress the production of waves on the bow. The wave breaking phenomenon is thus reduced to greatly decrease the resistance of water to the hull of the ship.
