To measure frequency by means of an electronic counter, the number of oscillations is counted in each case at several successive starting times and at several successive stopping times and from these, the difference between the sum of the starting-time counts and the sum of the stopping-time counts is determined in a processor, the value thus determined then being divided by the difference of the sum of the starting times and the sum of the stopping times.
