The absorption cooling and heating device for the alternative production of cold water and hot water by a single heat exchanger can, with simple construction and operation, be switched over for the production of cold water and hot water. For the injection of a refrigerant into a refrigerant vapour main line, devices are provided, which serve to introduce refrigerant vapour into the heat exchanger in order to produce cold water and hot water alternatively. This device serves to interrupt the injection of refrigerant during the hot-water production process and makes possible the injection of refrigerant during the process producing cold water. <IMAGE>
