<p>The appliance (1) has a gas burner (10) and a control valve (11) for regulating, and turning on and off, the supply of gas to the burner. The appliance is constructed in the form of a heat radiator having a U-shaped radiator tube (2, 3, 4). The gas burner (10) is positioned at one open end of the radiator tube to burn gas in the tube and a scavenging fan (12) is positioned, alongside the gas burner (10), at the other open end of the radiator tube to scavenge the radiator tube of any explosive gases prior to igniting the gas burner (10). The gas burner (10) is operated periodically under the control of the control valve (11) to heat the radiator tube (2, 3, 4) and the radiator tube is of strong-walled construction with a weight of more than 2.5 g/cm<2> relative to its generated surface.</p> |
