PURPOSE:To improve the using efficiency of a magnetic tape device by giving priority to plural magnetic tape device, and by switching and designating these tape devices by a group control system to process data transfer. CONSTITUTION:Keyboards 11, 21, 31 and 41 which set device numbers in order to determine priority in required number of device and to control by group control, priority display devices 13, 23, 33 and 43 which display the priority processing possibility and device number display devices 12, 22, 32 and 42 are provided to each of magnetic tape devices MT. These devices MT are connected a magnetic tape controller MTC. This MTC contains a function to register the priority of devices MT and a function to display the end of registration via priority display devices 13-43. Thus the MTC detects the set inputs given from devices MT1 and 2 having the same device number and recognizes the group control processing and then processes the data supplied from a CPU after designation of a group address in accordance with the designated priority.
