PURPOSE:To enable a transfer ribbon to be used extremely effectively, by a construction wherein a take-up shaft for feeding a ribbon is driven by a planetary gear only when a thermal head is energized in the direction of a platen to print. CONSTITUTION:When the thermal head 12 is brought into contact with the platen by passing an electric current to a solenoid 11, a restricting member 46 is escaped forward, and a lever 41 is set free, so that rotation of a gear 42 is accompanied by a displacement of the planetary gear 45, resulting in that the gear 45 is engaged to a take-up gear 39 to transmit the rotation of the gear 42 to the gear 39. Therefore, even where the thermal head 12 makes contact with the platen, the rotation of the gear 42 is transmitted to the take-up gear 39 through the planetary gear 45 only when a carrier 7 is moved rightward, and the take-up shaft 38 is rotated to take up the transfer ribbon 13, without using motors for exclusive use. Accordingly, the transfer ribbon is fed only when actual printing is performed. |
