The present invention relates to a device for growing bacteria from an initial population to a predetermined population, the device including a medium for such growth and a means for obtaining a predetermined population for inoculation of the medium. The invention also relates to a wand for picking up a predetermined quantity of bacteria, and a method of using the wand.
