PURPOSE:To co-dimerize ethylene with styrenes by using an easily available and handleable catalyst composed of combination of an Ni (0-valent) complex, phosphine compound or alkyl halide, etc. and a halide of boron or Al. CONSTITUTION:In co-dimerization of ethylene with styrenes, a catalyst containing combination of (A) an Ni (0-valent) complex [example; bis(cyclooctadiene)nickel], (B) a compound expressed by the formula PR<1>3 (R<1> represents alkyl, cycloalkyl, aryl, etc.) (example; trimethylphosphine), (C) a compound expressed by the formula R<2>X (R<2> represents alkyl, aryl, cycloalkyl, etc.; X represents Cl, Br or I) (example; methyl bromide) and (D) a compound expressed by the formula AY (A represents boron or Al; Y is halogen atom) (example; BF3) is used. EFFECT:The above-mentioned catalyst assures production of the aimed compound in good yield with a small amount of use. USE:A raw material for polymers. |
